Summit Academy and Summit Academy North Meal Charging Policy 2018-2019
The purpose of this policy is to address the need for communication to the families of the students
attending Summit Academy and Summit Academy North regarding the charging of breakfast, lunch,
and/or snack- known as school meals.
With consideration given to the wide variety of communities and demographics the Academy serves,
and our desire to ensure that all children receive the nutritional offerings they need, the Academy has
developed this policy to communicate to all families the practice that will be followed.
The policy of Summit Academy and Summit Academy North is to allow students up to $5.00 in unpaid
school meals balance. At that time, the expectation of the school is that students will:
- Have funds to pay for meals either at the reduced or paid rate
- Will have a meal from home
- Will complete and return to the school, a Family Application for Free/Reduced price
meals
Efforts will be made by the student’s building administration to collect school meals charges. No meals
will be served to the student until the balance owed is paid in full or the meal status has been changed
to Free through the submission of the Family Application.
Students may receive lite, non-reimbursable foods from share tables if available. If the student is a
runaway, a foster child, or homeless, informing the school administration will result in an application
being processed on behalf of the student which will result in Free status meals.
Families may complete a Family Application at any time during the school year if there are changes to
their income, number of family members, if assistance in the form of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance,
or Medicaid begin, or if a family becomes homeless.
